Round 4: Los Angeles 4/4/15
Doctor Doom (1) vs Doomsday (2):
The sun is setting with a pink and orange haze across the smog just off the horizon. The graffitied walls mark an interesting juxtaposition to the cool sand and deep blue water along Venice Beach. The sand, being displaced in firm clods with each step taken under Doomsday’s massive feet. The sand ripples silently under propulsion of Doctor Doom’s boots as he slowly glides to his feet to meet his opponent.
“Know this creature, I’m sure that you’re very powerful, but none know true power like Doom, cease your advance, and you may yet escape this conflict.”
Entirely unaffected by the speech, Doomsday’s methodical charge continues.
“Very well, let the world not speak ill of the generosity of Doom, my patience can only be tested so far.”
He raises his arms and shoots massive concussive force at his target. A strike that would easily disable most any foe he’s faced, Doomsday continues his march unimpeded. As he is nearing the Doctor Doom he rears back his gargantuan fist and punches straight into the green tunic before him. He hand stops just short, illuminating the blue force field surrounding Doctor Doom. Unphased, Doomsday pushes into the field. Doom takes a step back, and the energy shield crumbles. Always looking for opportunity, Doom strikes out at his opponent’s face. A loud “KLANG!” resounds as the gauntlet hit the bony protuberance inching Doomsday’s head back. Doom quickly reactivates his shields and redirects more of his power reserves to them. Doomsday unleashes all hell upon him. The shields hold at first, but Doom’s reading indicate that these might be some of if not the strongest kinetic force he’s been attacked with. As the he gets the reading, the shields fail and one hit sends him flying though a small shop, just off the beach.
Using the distance to recharge, and reevaluate the fight, Doom thinks aloud,
“I cannot best the beast using simple force, and my fuel cells will need approximately one more minute to fully recharge…”
The loud “thooms” of Doomsday’s steps are registered getting closer and closer. Doctor Doom waves his arms and begins muttering something unrecognizble. Doomsday gets close again and strikes out. A brownish flare of of runes appear in front of the oncoming fist. A darkness opens up and swollows the monster whole, the portal begins to close. Just moments before it pinches shut, the runes reappear, bulging, and flaming in mid air. Eight of Doomsday’s Grey fingers pop through the small opening. He pulls at the meta-physical gateway. As it expands, slowly at first, and then, with one might push, Doomsday is able to force his whole person back through. The runes explode and the entrance to another realm is blinks out of existance. Doom has never seen someone’s physical strenght effect the laws of the arcane in such a fashion. He cast a quick binding spell and red tendrils of pure mystical energy wrap the beast. Doomsday trashes about fighting them, pulling and twisting. They finally pin him down and Doom begins to analyze the creature for a weakness to further subdue the brute. In a very rare moment, Doom is becomes genuinely surprised, and worried. He sees no obvious weak point, and the mystic bindings are clearly being taxed well beyond their limit. Doomsday pops out, the shattered magic fades away, and he advances on his cloaked enemy once again. Doctor Doom flies off, U’s around and projects out five versions of himself.
“I know you’re a simple beast, I only need to continue on the offensive, and if you cannot harm Doom, you cannot…”
Unencumbered by simply having traditional sight, Doomsday could easily discern the real Doctor and smashes him directly in the chest. Doom’s armor dents in around the blow and he’s sent back once again. Knowing the creature doesn’t fly, and having most his suit’s power recycled back, Doom takes to the sky, and opens a savage bombardment of energy attacks. Finally, the monstrosity seems effected, each shot sending him back, forcing the area hit back, causing him a step of two of push back. Unhappy with the new development, Doomsday charges, with a speed unseen in the confrontation, and again surprising his rarely under-prepared enemy. He tackles Von Doom mid air and tear him to the ground. Pinning his opponent down, Doomsday begins to pummel the armor.
Doctor Doom, unable to access most of his controls, and watching his power slowly draining with each blow sustained, focuses in with a last ditch effort, a trick learned from the planet Birkeel, taught o him by the Ovoid race. Through the massive damage being dealt, and the now felt incredible physical pain, as the armor begins to dent in under the attacks, Doctor Doom locks eyes with the raging creature. Through the rage, it’s difficult to find the mind to take over, there’s so little to grasp onto, but Dooms remarkable will and mind are able to win out. Doctor Doom takes over the mind and body of Doomsday. Fighting to keep control through the frenzy, Doctor Doom wastes no time, using the massive body to attack itself repeatedly. Eventually, one titanic punch square to it’s own jaw, fells the alien.
Following the knockout Doctor Doom’s mind reenters his own body,
“Foul creature, your might, as great as may have been, bears no challenge compared to the might of Doom.”
Winner: DOCTOR DOOM
Round 4: Gotham City 4/4/15
Lex Luthor (1) vs Kang (6)
“Another human… no powers… incredible tech. Are you a traveler too? If not, how did you acquire all of these fantastic pieces?”
“A traveler? I get around, but from the look of you, that’s not what you meant. And as for acquisition, well, they’re all mine.”
“You’re unwillingness to be truthful won’t save you, I’m not from around here, not from now. There’s no way this suit, as interesting as it seems, could possibly hope to withstand the weapons I’ve amassed through the ages.”
“The ages you say? You’re from the future. Splendid, I’ve built all of this to fight the Man of Tomorrow.”
Lex Luthor grins at the prospect. Rockets roar to life under his boot and he shoots into the air, flying up alongside the sleek glass windows of the Wayne Enterprises headquarters. He fires a bevy of lazers down on his target. Kang is no stranger to energy projectiles, he activates a small button on his belt and a translucent metallic hued orb wraps around him, shading him from the onslaught. Kang pulls a weapon and a small hole opens up in his fortification. He activates his device and energy nets fly out, seeking the airborn Luthor. Struck, the Lex-Corps battle-suit spins out of control, it’s pilot frantically pulling the non-substantive netting. He lands with a hard thud. Kang’s shield disables and he he turns a knob on his gun, takes aim, and fires at the seemingly defunct armor.
“Nothing personal. You’re designs are so fascinating, I may employ one or two features of them myself, once the diagnostics complete.”
He fires. The blat rockets towards the fallen and sends him tumbling back. Lex’s suit reboots just before the follow up, and his footware are able to propel him to safety. Kang, still not sufficiently impressed, taunts further,
“If you really think a moving target is any more difficult for me to defeat, you’re in for a cold awakening.”
Lex responds from the air,
“I wasn’t worried about absconding the locale from your attack…”
Kang look down to see two green cylanders, just a moment before one ruptures, covering The Conqueror in a purplish goo. Slightly impeded, and very confused, he looks up,
“Is this is? Slime of some sort? That’s the best you could come up with?”
As if on cue, the second of the two barrels begin outpouring a wave of some red mass. A swarm of nanobots, crawling their way to the purple tracking gel. The waste little time swarming Kang, eating way at the contents of Luthor’s first grenade as well as the armor underneath. Mirroring his foes previous tactic, Luthor fires his blasts onto the incapacitated Kang. The shots blow off any remaining nanites and leave Kang standing in a tattered facsimile of what once served as both his protection, and weaponry.
“Tell me man of the future, how does this occasion end? How do you finish this fight?”
Kangs spits in Luthor’s direction and charges out of desperation. Lex Luthor fires another shot, hitting Kang in the leg. He falls to the ground. Luthor walks towards his beaten foe. It’s not enough to win, this man needs to know why Lex Luthor won, and why he will always win.
Dangling off his wrist, a small silver unit speaks to Kang,
“Diagnostics complete… analysis comlplete… override… … … engaged.”
At that moment, Lex’s suit seizes, unable to move, Luthor falls to the ground. The comtrol mechanism affecting the change, amongst the last vestiges of his armor, snaps off as he tries to take full control of his adversary. Lex desperately thumbs controls, shouts commands, and fiddles with various components, all to no avail. Kang’s weakend state allows Luthor just enough time to crawl out of the armor and stand. Seeing this, Kang is found reknewed of vigor, ready to beat this newly hated foe with his bare hands. The two strike out. Punching, kicking. Kang lands the first punch, a solid jab to Luthor’s face. Lex retaliates by rolling into it, shortening the force of the strike. He chops out at the back of Kang’s neck, felling him. On his knees, Kang punches out at the midsection, a shot met by a block from his oppoenent’s left leg. It’s followed by a hard knee to the jaw. Lex Luthor has trained to fight, while his suit is a technological marvel, he keeps himself ready for any situation. His exhausted foe simply didn’t do enough, perhaps underestimated, and pays for it with the loss.
Winner: LEX LUTHOR
Round 4: New York City 4/4/15
Thanos (1) vs Black Adam (2)
The spinning golden globe atop the Daily Planet building shines on in the bright sun. Standing atop the building looking out at the floating ruler of Khandaq, is Thanos. Neither notices nor cares that the heat has reaches a sweltering 102. The cool rulers exchange typical banter,
“You cannot hope to defeat me, I am Thanos, I will be your end, I will be your death.”
“Better men than you have tried and failed, and I am in NO mood for this anymore.”
Black Adam wants to end the encounter quickly, he dashes at the Titan and strikes him hard, pushing him off the tall building. He zooms up, his momentum holding the villain as he streaks higher and higher into the air, just at the edge of our atmosphere, far beyond the limits of oxygen, he turns abruptly and hurls Thanos back to the Earth, striking out as his all along the decent until the last moment, Thanos lands in the center of the city at terminal velocity, creating a giant crater, and sending a shockwave destroying surrounding building and shattering glass for miles in every direction. Hovering above it all Black Adam stares down at the wreckage and smiles.
The ground lay silent, the dust settles, and Black Adam wonders why he isn’t being whisked away to his next confrontation. He hears a rumble, and a sudden burst of white light blows out a small patch of debris. Climbing atop it is Thanos,
“You think you can defeat me with a few punches? Think again!”
He lets out a blood curdling howl of laughter and begins to discharge massive energy at his flying rival. Black Adam zips in and out of the way, just dodging the bursts swiftly as he zooms back in for another attack. He punches Thanos in the face, left, right, left, right. Thanos gives ground with each strike and a dribble of purple blood grows into a small river. Black Adam is astonished that Thanos is still standing.
Thanos punches back, the force could shatter a mountain, the crack could be heard across the city if there were any ears left to listen to it. Black Adam spits out a small amount of blood and charges in for another flurry of attacks, this time, he’s surprised to be met by another strike from Thanos, again, it sends him back. Thanos explodes out more attacks, stunned, Black Adam cannot dodge them this time. Fighting to get up, Black Adam is struck again. Thanos gives no quarter as he presses his advantage. It’s all Black Adam can do to surge through an attack and whiz behind Thanos, getting in another flurry of attacks. Thanos reaches back, grabs Adam, and hurls him down in front of him. Struggling up, fighting for footing, Black Adam grabs at Thano’s boots. Just as Black Adam is able to get to one knee the Mad Titan kicks him down once again. Bloodied, Black Adam cannot regain his momentum, Thanos has him beaten, and wants him to know it.
“You have no idea the forces you’re up against, tremble before the might of Thanos! I will be victorious”
He stomps his prey. He picks him and backhands him. He grabs him by the collar and smashes him into the ground. He aims one finger at the distanced fallen and pings him left and right as Black Adam attempts to stagger to his feet. Thanos reaches out and grabs Black Adam by the throat proclaiming,
“And now, you’ll see why Thanos is the only one truly worthy to deliver those other unto Death.”
Thanos grins as his eyes light up. Choking through the grasp Black Adam pushes out,
“If you prefer a battle of words, I have but one for you… SHAZAM!”
A bolt of lighting rockets from the heavens, Black Adam is just able to shift aside and the bolt strikes down on Thanos. He uses the moment to slip around, grapple the god sound, and shouts out again,
He continues the assault repeatedly, each bolt slightly weakening Thanos until he drops to his knees, smoke pouring from his mouth. Black Adam tosses him aside and, not taking any moment for granted, pummels the his opposition to the limits of the stamina of Shu.
Winner: BLACK ADAM
Round 4: Metropolis 4/4/15
Darkseid (1) vs Kid Miracleman (3):
Lighting crackles in the distance, flashing to illuminate the black and yellow suit of Kid Miracleman and the the simple blue uniform of Darkseid in the center of Times Quare, New York City. They each instinctively know they’re only once step away from reaching the final four and the each that the have the power to make it. Kid Miracleman has blown through his previous opponents. Heck, he’s even blown through his own nemesis, Miracleman. What could this crusty gray old man in a tunic possible have that he hasn’t seen before? He remarks to his foe,
“Well well well, aren’t you big and scary? Guess what! I’m Scary too?
Without another moment of hesitation he streaks down towards Darkseid, landing two-fisting his way at super-sonic speeds across Darkseid’s jaw. The strike is startling for Darkseid. He wasn’t expecting nearly this much raw power. Before he can truly comprehend it, Kid Miracleman streaks past once again. Darkseid stagger once more. Again, the atomic powered villain blurs past the despot, and again, forces him to falter. Darkseid has faced a very select few that can match him in power, and here stands an unknown, a being he’s never encountered before, cause him to… bleed?… is that blood? Darkseid sputters through marred lips,
“Very impressive, impressive indeed.”
Before a moment is given to react Kid Miracleman zooms in with another attack, striking the New God sound. The bevy of violence from the deranged former sidekick refuses to let up. Darlseid has dealt with speedsters before. He’s dealt with the incredibly strong. But, the two rarely meet. Unfortunately for Kid Miracleman, occasonally they do, in Darkseid’s expirience, with Superman, and a few of Earth’s other heroes, and the opening onslaught is just enough to keep Darkseid off his guard for the entire bout. A little beaten on, Darkseid collects himself and catches Kid Miracelman mid strike on another assault. Kid Miraceman IS surprised. No one is as fast as him, at least no one he’s ever heard of, a lucky grab.
Luck or not, it doesn’t change the fact that Darkseid now how his hands on his foe. He pulls the assailant in and slams him down into the ground, pulls him up and puncjes him in the face. The jab send him reeling to the ground. Darkseid saunters over to crush the final vetiges from his foe. Just as he approaches him victim, Kid Miracleman darts back and flies up to the sky. Darkseid squints his eyes down small and prepares his Omega beams and fires them out. The red streaks blur through the air, zipping and zagging around, following their fleeing goal. Eventually, as the most oft do, the beams strike their target. Kid Miraclemn falls from the sky at Darkseid’s feet. At this point, astonished at his enemy’s resilence, he speaks out,
“It seems I’ve underestimated you.”
He kicks the fallen wretch, who tumbles around, nearing unconsciousness. He lifts himself and strikes up, jarring Darkseid once more.
“It seems you’re full of surprises…”
Kid Miracleman dashes in and squeezes Darkseid with a bear hug,
“You have NO idea! … MIRACLEMAN!”
A bolt of pure energy steaks from the sky, Kid Miracleman slides to his right, and the column strikes Darkseid. He reaches through the resultant smoke cloud, and grabs Kid Miracleman,
“Too little too late.”
